It seems like forever since I have posted. So much has gone on.

House is done (still unpacking). The walls are butter yellow with laminate floors instead of wall to wall carpet. This is more cat friendly.

I now have a car that a neighbor of a good friend GAVE to me for free. I have only put $250 into it so far. Most of that is normal things I would have done anyway. It is a Toyota Tercel (87).

Now for the fun part.
I participated in the Friday Night Sew In. I stayed at my friends house over the weekend and sewed my little heart out. It was much needed. Here are some pictures of what I did.

I am adding a picture of June's project because she hasn't quilted for at least over 2 months.
She found out last month that she had breast cancer. 2 weeks after finding out she had a mastectomy and after all the test she is cancer free. No chemo or radiation needed.  She was lucky she caught it early.

Left overs

I decided that I wanted turkey enchiladas for dinner. I didn't have any corn tortillas so I stopped by the store after work (11:30 pm)to pick some up. I couldn't see premade ones so I picked up the flour to see how hard it would be to make my own. It didn't look to hard. I asked a sales person if they had any premade ones and he found them for me. I still bought the floor to try making some this weekend. Guess what. I left the premade ones at the store. I wasn't going back tonight. It is way to cold. So I guess I am making homemade corn tortillas tonight at midnight. (I'm crazy) they were easier than I thought they would be. They taste so much better. Here is the finished product on the bottom and tomorrows dinner on top.

update, they taste AWESOME if I say so myself.

Thrifty shopping

Thanksgiving turned out ok. We had a power outage from 8 in the morning until 2 in the afternoon. It wasn't so bad because we had ham that was already precooked and the other stuff only took an hour to make. (yams, corn, gravy, stovetop stuffing and brown and serve rolls). It wasn't so good for a neighbor of mine. She woke up at 7 and put her turkey in the oven, 1 hour later all the power was out. She was not to happy. She ended up having to wait for the transformer by our house to get repaired.

I ended up staying awake because I wanted to go shopping at 5am. I bought the two things I wanted at Bi-Mart then decided to go to Fred Meyers for free coffee and donuts. Of course I had to buy their 50 percent off socks for everybody in the house except for my poor daughter Shay, who has no socks. Isn't that the way it usually happens.

To keep up with the shopping fever, I went to a Goodwil outlet store. This is where all the things that don't sell at the regular stores will go to for final sale by the pound. I ended up getting forty mens 100% cotton shirts and a tall dresser for $27.00 total. I also bought this. A 35 x 52 wool crazy quilt. It is so cool. It was yelling at me, "over here, over here!". This is the 3rd quilt I have bought there. The dresser was $5 and the rest turned out to be about 50 cents each.
I am in the process of cutting up the shirts for quilts. My daughters boyfriend ended up getting 3 of them because he needed them for work and little David got one and a set of PJs that I found too. Olivia also received a little pink outfit. Again Poor Shay didn't get anything.
I am going to have to take her out for a shopping spree for her. She loves going there. First we will go though the closet to remove some before we bring more in.

Olivia

Olivia is 5 1/2 months old. She is the most content baby I have ever known. She watches her brother, laughs with him and anything else. While I was making dinner she played quietly and giggled to herself.

It is so amazing how much she looks like her mother at that age. Here it is at midnight and Olivia and I are wide awake and keeping each other company. Everyone else is in bed asleep. I am still on my work schedule and I do want to go shopping tomorrow (or is it today) at 5.

Not much quilting going on until Saturday when I get back to my friends house.

Tomorrow will be a day of cleaning and preparing for things to be brought back to the house. I am so excited. It is looking so awesome.

Hexies on the trail!

Well I actually sat down yesterday and today and prepped my border of white hexes. I need over 30 of the same kind. This is the boring part. My next task is to attach them to the outside.

I don't know if I am hopeful or just crazy. There is over 200 papers already punched out. They might go for this little quilt or, heaven forbid, another hexie quilt. Time will tell.

Quick quilt

It is finished! This is one of the quilts that I cut out this last weekend. It is only 48 x 60. This one is a youth size quilt. I don't plan on putting a border on it. In fact all I am going to do is turn it in "as is". If someone else decides that it needs a border, that is ok. They can put in on. I did the part I liked and I am happy with it.

This quilt is such a quick quilt. The pattern is one that you can cut up your scraps and collect them until you have enough for a quilt.

Here are the cutting sized to make a 12 inch block.

Center block is 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 (1 pc)
Long logs are 2 1/2 x 6 1/2 (8 pcs)
Short logs are 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 (4 pcs)

Try it. They can get addicting. I am already planning my next one.
